James Choate practices architecture in Atlanta, Georgia, although his projects are located throughout the United States (and occasionally farther). He believes that just about anyone can design a house, but the greater challenge is to create one that is memorable, that reflects specifically the nature of its site, and elevates the lives of its inhabitants. No two families or two sets of building circumstances are exactly alike. Therefore, it seems only fitting that a house should strive to be unique to its place, and its moment in time.

Choate looks to create unique places by exploring the possibilities that exist within the materials being used, and the opportunity to express volume and form with rigorous geometry and carefully crafted details. The hope is that these works will also be successful in the fourth dimension (time), as materials weather and the architecture ages.
